As stated in article 213 and 214 of the 2004 Penal Code, homosexuality in Bhutan is considered to be illegal, and people who are found to be guilty can be sentenced to prison from 1 month up to 1 year. In addition, there continues to be cultural struggles for LGBTQ people in Bhutan who are seeking acceptance.
