Day 67 – Tanzania
Today marks the lack of LGBTQ rights in Tanzania. As stated in the Tanzania Penal Code, homosexuality is additionally illegal in Tanzania, with men facing a penalty of 30 years up to life imprisonments, and women facing 5 years imprisonment or 500,000 shilling fine.
According to a research study conducted by Pew Global Attitudes Project, 95% of Tanzanians believe that homosexuality should not be accepted in society, which was the 7th highest rate of non-acceptance in the 45 countries surveyed.
Michael is raising awareness of the lack of LGBTQ rights in countries like Iraq by abstaining from meat, fish and sugary treats for 79 days. If you would like to find out more, click here.
