Day 59 – South Sudan

People who identify as LGBTQ in South Sudan face discrimination not experienced by heterosexual residents. In 2008 the Government of Southern Sudan adopted its own Penal Code which states that same-sex sexual activity is illegal, with a penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment.

Michael, the Breakout Youth Development Worker, has given up meat, fish and sugary treats for 79 days to represent the lack of LGBTQ rights in 79 countries around the world. If you would like to find out more about Michael’s fundraiser challenge, click here.
