According to section 319 of the Senegalese Penal Code, homosexuality is illegal in Senegal. Anyone who is found to be guilt of same-sex sexual activity can face a punishment of up to 5 years in prison.
In addition, a survey conducted by the Pew Research Centre in 2013 stated that 97% of Senegal residents believe that homosexuality should not be accepted in society.
