Breakout Attends the Pride Youth Games in Manchester

A bunch of our Staff, Volunteers and Breakout Young people got the chance to take part in the Pride Youth Games last week in Manchester. This was all made possible thanks to Red Funnel and the NHS for covering the transportation costs for the event.

Pride Youth Games is a residential weekend of activities for LGBT+ young people. PYG provides a unique opportunity for LGBT+ young people to get together, have fun and experience sport and activity in a safe and inclusive environment. It is a joint initiative of Pride Sports, LEAP Sports Scotland and LGBT Sport Cymru.

PYG brings diverse young LGBT+ people together at a time when they are vulnerable to social isolation and exclusion, and when they are developing confidence in their own identities following, often hostile, school experiences of sport and physical education. It provides a space where ALL LGBT+ young people, trans, non-binary, intersex and queer, can reclaim autonomy across a range of sports spaces.

“For me, the Pride Youth Games were a completely life changing experience that I couldn’t get from any other event. It improved my self confidence and gave me experiences and friends I will remember forever. The environment was incredibly relaxed and I didn’t feel pressured or not good enough when doing any of the activities. There’s so many ways to experience the Pride Youth Games that make it so widely enjoyable.”

 

“Personally, as a trans male, I found these games the only way that I was able to try out sports as there was no discrimination and it was an easy environment to get used to sports at my own pace in a binder. I found a new love for sports at the Pride Youth Games and treasure it as a truly special adventure. It would mean everything for me to be able to go back again next year and reconnect with the community in such an amazing way.”
