Day 20 – Gambia

Posted in: General News

People who identify as LGBTQ in Gambia face discrimination not experienced by heterosexual residents. As section 144 of the Gambia Criminal Code states, any person who is guilty of a homosexual act is to be punished with imprisonment of up to 7 years.

Michael, the Breakout Youth Development Worker, has given up meat, fish and sugary treats for 79 days to represent the lack of LGBTQ rights in 79 countries around the world. If you would like to find out more about Michael’s fundraiser challenge, click here.
